Customers lined up outside the new Palm Springs 99 Cents Only Store for grand opening specials January 17, 2017. The customer response resulted in local news coverage by ABC 3 and CBS News.
To promote the new store, 99 Cents Only Stores offered a variety of products for 99 cents at the grand opening event. At the top of the list of grand opening specials were nine 32-inch flat screen TVs. Other promotional products priced at 99 cents included scooters, coffee makers, digital cameras, blenders, George Foreman Grills and mini sewing machines.
The new Palm Springs store is located at 102 S Sunrise Way and will feature a perishable food department, including produce, dairy and frozen foods.
99 Cents Only Stores LLC (the “Company”) announced its financial results for first quarter of fiscal 2017 ended April 29, 2016.
Pete Lozano and eight other people in line for a promotional 99-cent television were given strict rules to save their place as they waited dozens of hours before the grand opening of Los Banos’ new 99 Cents Only store.
They could only move from their spot for bathroom and meal breaks. They were monitored by a store official. And they were left to figure out how to deal with cool night temperatures as they slept and the heat of the morning sun.
Lozano said he walked to the nearby Jack in the Box during his meal breaks, relishing the air conditioning before getting back in line.
“It seemed like a longer time because all of us were anxious to get a TV for 99 cents,” Lozano said.
